High-level summary
A scheme-specific assessment of quality management in eligible automotive manufacturing activities. Audits examine process effectiveness, customer requirements and the controls supporting consistent production and defect prevention.
Official certification requires an IATF-recognised certification body and the applicable automotive rules. The current IATF standard retains its prescribed ISO 9001 basis; a new ISO 9001 publication does not automatically revise the automotive certification criteria.

- Application & scope. Verify manufacturing eligibility, customer requirements, supporting locations and IATF-recognised delivery authority.
- Scheme review & planning. Apply the current IATF Rules to site structure, audit eligibility, team competence, audit time and scheduling.
- Stage 1 — readiness. Complete the Rules-defined readiness assessment using required performance and management system information.
- Stage 2 — implementation. Audit manufacturing and support processes against IATF, its prescribed ISO 9001 basis and customer requirements.
- Nonconformity management. Review client responses and verify implementation and effectiveness within the prescribed IATF deadlines.
- Independent certification decision. A competent function independent of the audit evaluates the evidence; certification is issued only when requirements are met.
- Surveillance. Apply IATF surveillance, customer-performance review and special-audit requirements under the current Rules.
- Recertification. Complete the Rules-defined reassessment and certification decision within the required cycle deadlines.
