Programme Summary
Spare parts decisions must balance equipment downtime exposure with inventory cost and availability. This programme develops practical methods for identifying critical spares, setting stocking parameters and improving maintenance materials control. Participants analyse consumption and lead time information, review repairable items and prepare a defensible stocking recommendation that supports maintenance readiness while reducing avoidable stock and obsolete materials.
Training Objectives
1 Connect spare parts decisions with equipment risk; 2 Improve inventory classification and master data; 3 Strengthen replenishment and stock control methods; 4 Support repairable and obsolete item decisions; 5 Build practical maintenance materials performance measures.
Learning Outcomes
1 Classify spares using consequence and demand; 2 Calculate basic replenishment parameters from data; 3 Identify duplicate and obsolete stock risks; 4 Prepare a repairable item control plan; 5 Justify a critical spare stocking recommendation.
Target Audience
Maintenance Planners; Stores Supervisors; Materials Controllers; Reliability Engineers; Procurement Officers.
Target Industries
Manufacturing Plants; Utilities; Petrochemicals; Mining Operations; Transport Maintenance; Facilities Management.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Spares Strategy and Risk: Equipment consequences and supply exposure; Consumable repairable and insurance spares; Ownership of stocking decisions.
- Module 2 Materials Master Data: Part identification and technical specifications; Interchangeability and duplicate prevention; Equipment links and approved substitutions.
- Module 3 Inventory Classification: Value usage and criticality categories; Intermittent demand and uncertainty; Different controls for different classes.
- Module 4 Stocking and Replenishment: Lead time demand and service targets; Reorder levels and safety stock; Review periods and parameter changes.
- Module 5 Stores and Preservation: Receipt inspection and storage conditions; Shelf life preservation and traceability; Issue return and reservation controls.
- Module 6 Repairable Item Management: Repair cycles and exchange pools; Repair versus replace considerations; Warranty tracking and failure feedback.
- Module 7 Obsolescence and Suppliers: Slow moving and obsolete inventory; Supplier lead time and reliability; Last time buys and alternatives.
- Module 8 Spares Optimisation Workshop: Calculating parameters from supplied data; Justifying critical spare holding decisions; Defining inventory and readiness measures.
Assessment
- 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference pack permitted; external internet and AI assistance prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Analyse a spare parts dataset, calculate proposed reorder parameters and recommend stocking or repair actions for three items with different criticality profiles.
- Assessment criteria: Accuracy of inventory calculations; Alignment of stock decisions with equipment risk; Practicality of materials control recommendations.
- Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records assessed maintenance spare parts planning skills; inventory decisions require employer approval and applicable engineering controls.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
