Programme Summary

Select maintenance actions through a structured understanding of asset functions, failure modes and consequences. Participants work through a defined equipment case, distinguish proactive tasks from appropriate default actions, and justify decisions using operating context and available evidence. The programme supports disciplined reliability discussions and practical maintenance improvements while identifying where specialist analysis or further data is needed.

02

Training Objectives

1 Connect maintenance decisions with required asset functions; 2 Analyse credible failures and their consequences; 3 Evaluate task applicability and effectiveness; 4 Justify intervals and default action decisions; 5 Translate analysis into controlled maintenance improvements.

03

Learning Outcomes

1 Define asset functions and performance standards; 2 Document functional failures modes and effects; 3 Classify consequences including hidden protective failures; 4 Justify maintenance tasks and interval assumptions; 5 Produce an implementation and review action list.

04

Target Audience

Reliability Engineers; Maintenance Engineers; Asset Engineers; Maintenance Managers; Operations Engineers; Condition Monitoring Specialists.

05

Target Industries

Oil and Gas; Power Generation; Water Utilities; Mining and Mineral Processing; Process Manufacturing; Rail Infrastructure.

Course Contents

  • Module 1 Reliability Centred Maintenance Purpose: Business and asset performance objectives; Structured RCM questions and decision discipline; Team roles technical evidence and analysis boundaries.
  • Module 2 Operating Context and Asset Boundaries: Operating duty environment and interfaces; System boundaries and supporting equipment; Required performance and acceptable operating states.
  • Module 3 Functions and Functional Failures: Primary secondary and protective functions; Measurable functional performance standards; Complete and partial loss of function.
  • Module 4 Identifying Credible Failure Modes: Physical causes and operating conditions; Relevant failure history and expert judgement; Appropriate analysis detail and uncertainty.
  • Module 5 Describing Failure Effects: Local system and wider operational effects; Detection evidence and protective responses; Consequences when additional safeguards fail.
  • Module 6 Evaluating Failure Consequences: Safety and environmental consequence considerations; Operational and economic consequences; Hidden failures and multiple-failure exposure.
  • Module 7 Condition-Based Maintenance Decisions: Detectable deterioration and monitoring options; Potential-to-functional failure interval concepts; Feasibility effectiveness and inspection intervals.
  • Module 8 Scheduled Restoration and Replacement: Age-related failure evidence and task relevance; Restoration or replacement effectiveness; Interval justification and residual uncertainty.
  • Module 9 Failure Finding and Default Actions: Testing hidden protective functions; Redesign and changes to operating practice; Justified run-to-failure decisions within constraints.
  • Module 10 Reviewing the Maintenance Strategy: Technical challenge and documented rationale; Task overlap workload and implementation feasibility; Safety review and authorised change decisions.
  • Module 11 Implementing and Monitoring Results: Job plans ownership and maintenance-system updates; Failure feedback and performance measures; Review triggers and continuous improvement.
  • Module 12 Applied RCM Case Workshop: Complete a structured equipment analysis; Defend selected tasks and interval assumptions; Prepare a prioritised implementation action list.

Assessment

  • 60 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
  • 90 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
  • Supplied decision guides and case records permitted; internet, messaging and AI tools prohibited.
  • Individual applied assessment (45 minutes): Complete an RCM worksheet for a supplied asset covering its functions, two failure modes, effects and consequences. Justify task selection or a default action for each, state interval assumptions and identify evidence needed before implementation.
  • Assessment criteria: Accurate function failure-mode and consequence logic; Technically justified task selection and interval assumptions; Traceable decisions with practical implementation controls.
  • Pass each component separately: 45/60 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
  • All mandatory criteria must pass: Do not accept unresolved intolerable safety or environmental consequences as routine run-to-failure decisions.
  • Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.

Certification

  • Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
  • The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
  • Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
  • Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
  • Records assessed reliability centred maintenance analysis skills; implementation decisions require competent engineering review and site approval.
  • Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
