Programme Summary
Convert an emissions baseline into a practical carbon reduction programme with clear accountability. Participants evaluate reduction levers, compare delivery costs and dependencies, and develop staged targets supported by measurable actions. Case exercises distinguish gross emission reductions, removals and external credits, helping organisations communicate credible progress while addressing uncertainty, residual emissions and the limits of net zero claims.
Training Objectives
1 Translate emissions evidence into reduction priorities; 2 Strengthen credible target and pathway design; 3 Evaluate feasible carbon reduction investment options; 4 Clarify residual emissions removals and claims; 5 Build accountable implementation and progress review.
Learning Outcomes
1 Identify reduction levers from an emissions baseline; 2 Develop targets with explicit scope and timing; 3 Compare options using costs and delivery constraints; 4 Prepare a phased carbon reduction action plan; 5 Evaluate the evidence supporting a climate claim.
Target Audience
Sustainability Managers; Environmental Managers; Energy Managers; Operations Managers; Finance Business Partners; Procurement Managers.
Target Industries
Manufacturing; Logistics; Commercial Real Estate; Utilities; Retail; Hospitality.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Baseline Integrity and Planning Boundaries: Inventory completeness and significant emission sources; Base year comparability and recalculation triggers; Gross emissions versus credits and removals.
- Module 2 Targets and Reduction Pathways: Interim milestones and long term ambition; Absolute intensity and scope coverage choices; Scientific pathway assumptions and feasibility constraints.
- Module 3 Operational and Value Chain Reduction Levers: Demand reduction efficiency and process redesign; Electrification renewable energy and sourcing options; Supplier collaboration and product use influences.
- Module 4 Option Evaluation and Investment Decisions: Abatement estimates and interacting project effects; Capital operating costs and lifecycle value; Technical dependencies capacity and implementation risks.
- Module 5 Residual Emissions Removals and Credits: Prioritising reductions within the value chain; Permanence additionality leakage and reversal concerns; Distinguishing net zero from other claims.
- Module 6 Transition Plan Governance and Delivery: Owners budgets milestones and procurement dependencies; Workforce implications and stakeholder engagement; Change control and escalation of delays.
- Module 7 Progress Measurement and Communication: Tracking gross emissions and delivered actions; Explaining variances assumptions and remaining uncertainty; Avoiding unsupported avoided emissions and neutrality claims.
- Module 8 Carbon Reduction Planning Case: Prioritising measures for a fictional organisation; Developing a phased implementation and monitoring plan; Defending target choices and communication boundaries.
Assessment
- 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Use a supplied baseline and option dataset to prioritise three reduction measures, define interim milestones and owners, and revise an unsupported climate claim with evidence based wording.
- Assessment criteria: Consistent baseline and reduction reasoning; Feasible priorities milestones and accountable delivery; Accurate distinctions among reductions removals and claims.
- Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- All mandatory criteria must pass: Do not substitute credits or avoided emissions for transparent gross emission reduction reporting.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records carbon reduction planning skills; it does not validate targets, certify net zero status or approve carbon credits or removals.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
