Programme Summary
Translate microbiological concepts into practical food safety decisions. Participants examine how pathogens, spoilage organisms and indicators behave in products and processing environments, and how storage, formulation and treatment influence risk. Case exercises develop interpretation of laboratory results and sampling limitations, helping technical teams select relevant controls and communicate effectively with microbiologists and process specialists.
Training Objectives
1 Build practical understanding of foodborne microorganisms; 2 Connect microbial behaviour with products and processes; 3 Improve selection of relevant contamination controls; 4 Strengthen interpretation of microbiological evidence; 5 Support informed collaboration with laboratories and specialists.
Learning Outcomes
1 Identify microbial concerns for selected product categories; 2 Explain effects of key growth and survival factors; 3 Map contamination routes through a food process; 4 Interpret microbiological results with stated limitations; 5 Recommend evidence based control and investigation priorities.
Target Audience
Food Safety Officers; Quality Technologists; HACCP Team Members; Production Technologists; Laboratory Coordinators; Product Developers.
Target Industries
Food Manufacturing; Dairy Processing; Ready Meal Production; Beverage Production; Food Testing Services.

- Module 12 Applied Microbiology Case: Assess a fictional product contamination problem; Interpret supplied laboratory and process data; Present justified controls and further investigations.
Assessment
- 60 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 90 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference sheets permitted; messaging, internet searches and external AI assistance prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (45 minutes): Interpret microbial and process data for a food product, identify plausible contamination and growth routes and justify control, sampling and specialist investigation priorities.
- Assessment criteria: Accurate microbiological and process interpretation; Sound recognition of evidence and sampling limitations; Relevant controls and investigation recommendations.
- Pass each component separately: 45/60 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- All mandatory criteria must pass: Do not treat a negative sample as proof that an entire batch is safe.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records applied microbiology course learning; it does not authorise laboratory testing, pathogen handling or independent process validation.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
