Programme Summary
Strengthen routine chemical handling and storage while preparing staff to recognise the limits of safe spill response. Participants review compatibility, labelling, transfer arrangements and containment using realistic workplace cases. Benign simulations develop practical checks and escalation decisions, helping teams prevent releases and protect people without treating a short course as authorisation for specialist hazardous materials emergency intervention.
Training Objectives
1 Recognise chemical handling and storage incompatibilities; 2 Apply practical containment and transfer controls; 3 Use hazard information for safe task planning; 4 Distinguish minor response from specialist emergencies; 5 Strengthen spill reporting and waste controls.
Learning Outcomes
1 Identify unsafe chemical storage combinations; 2 Prepare a safe handling checklist; 3 Select suitable containment and protective measures; 4 Demonstrate benign spill isolation and escalation; 5 Document a spill response and follow up record.
Target Audience
Chemical Storekeepers; Laboratory Technicians; Production Supervisors; Maintenance Coordinators; HSE Officers.
Target Industries
Chemical Manufacturing; Laboratory Services; Industrial Maintenance; Cleaning Services; Food Manufacturing; Warehousing.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Chemical Hazard Information: Labels safety data sheets and identification; Health physical and environmental hazard categories; Task context and information limitations.
- Module 2 Storage Compatibility: Segregation of incompatible material groups; Containers ventilation and secondary containment; Inventory condition checks and controlled access.
- Module 3 Safe Handling and Transfer: Work planning and suitable transfer equipment; Preventing splashes leaks and static hazards; Labelling decanted containers and maintaining identity.
- Module 4 Protective and Emergency Arrangements: Exposure prevention and appropriate protective equipment; Emergency showers eyewash and access needs; Competence limits and local response procedures.
- Module 5 Spill Recognition and Decisions: Known substances quantities and release conditions; Minor controllable spills versus serious emergencies; Isolation alarm and specialist assistance triggers.
- Module 6 Benign Response Practice: Safe approach and exclusion boundaries; Simulated containment with compatible materials; Preventing spread and protecting drainage routes.
- Module 7 Waste and Incident Follow Up: Residue segregation labelling and approved disposal; Reporting exposure and preserving factual records; Cause review and prevention of recurrence.
- Module 8 Chemical Safety Scenario: Reviewing a storage and transfer plan; Demonstrating safe simulated spill decisions; Preparing a practical improvement record.
Assessment
- 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (60 minutes): Review a chemical storage case and demonstrate safe isolation, communication and benign containment decisions in a simulated minor spill scenario.
- Assessment criteria: Correct compatibility and handling judgement; Safe response within stated limits; Clear escalation waste and incident records.
- Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- All mandatory criteria must pass: Avoid contact with unknown hazardous releases; Escalate spills beyond trained capability.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records chemical handling and spill awareness skills; it does not qualify hazardous materials responders or authorise intervention in dangerous atmospheres.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
