Programme Summary
Plan confined space work around the decision to avoid entry wherever feasible and control the remaining risks rigorously. Participants review space conditions, isolation, atmospheric assessment and permit responsibilities using simulated evidence. The programme strengthens coordination and rescue planning interfaces while clearly separating planning knowledge from the practical competence and authorisation required to enter, test atmospheres or conduct rescue operations.
Training Objectives
1 Recognise confined space hazards and entry alternatives; 2 Define competent planning and permit responsibilities; 3 Evaluate isolation and atmospheric control arrangements; 4 Coordinate communications emergency and rescue planning; 5 Identify conditions requiring prohibition or specialist escalation.
Learning Outcomes
1 Identify a confined space planning scenario; 2 Prepare a permit planning checklist; 3 Evaluate supplied isolation and atmosphere information; 4 Define entry conditions and stop work triggers; 5 Specify competent rescue and support requirements.
Target Audience
Permit Coordinators; Maintenance Supervisors; Safety Officers; Shutdown Planners; Operations Supervisors.
Target Industries
Oil and Gas Operations; Water and Wastewater Utilities; Chemical Manufacturing; Food Processing; Marine Maintenance; Industrial Maintenance.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Confined Space Recognition: Enclosure access and foreseeable serious risks; Atmospheric engulfment and other hazards; Entry avoidance and alternative work methods.
- Module 2 Planning and Responsibilities: Task scope and competent role allocation; Site information and simultaneous activities; Permit arrangements and authorisation boundaries.
- Module 3 Isolation and Preparation: Energy material and process isolation needs; Cleaning ventilation and residual contamination; Verification evidence before entry consideration.
- Module 4 Atmospheric Assessment Awareness: Oxygen flammable and toxic atmosphere concerns; Sampling locations changes and monitoring limitations; Competent gas testing and instrument suitability.
- Module 5 Work Controls and Communication: Entry limits equipment and protective arrangements; Attendant communication and accountability; Changing conditions and permit suspension.
- Module 6 Emergency and Rescue Planning: Foreseeable emergencies and response capability; Preplanned rescue resources and competent teams; Avoiding improvised unprotected rescue.
- Module 7 Permit Review and Closeout: Evidence supporting entry conditions; Shift changes suspension and revalidation; Completion checks and controlled handback.
- Module 8 Confined Space Planning Workshop: Reviewing a fictional permit evidence pack; Identifying missing critical safeguards; Presenting a justified entry planning decision.
Assessment
- 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Review a fictional confined space permit pack, identify missing safeguards and prepare entry planning conditions, stop work triggers and rescue coordination requirements.
- Assessment criteria: Complete critical hazard and control review; Correct permit and competence boundaries; Safe emergency planning and escalation.
- Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- All mandatory criteria must pass: Prohibit entry with missing critical safeguards; Reject improvised unprotected rescue.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records confined space planning knowledge; it does not authorise entry, atmospheric testing, breathing apparatus use or rescue duties.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
