Programme Summary

Recognise how flammable gases, vapours, mists and combustible dusts can create explosive atmospheres. Participants examine release conditions, ventilation, ignition sources and operational controls using industrial cases. The programme strengthens awareness of hazardous area information and equipment restrictions while keeping detailed area classification, explosion protection design and specialist electrical inspection within appropriately competent engineering roles.

02

Training Objectives

1 Recognise credible explosive atmosphere scenarios; 2 Identify releases ventilation and ignition influences; 3 Understand hazardous area information and work restrictions; 4 Select practical prevention and operational controls; 5 Identify specialist classification and design needs.

03

Learning Outcomes

1 Identify explosion hazards in a process case; 2 Explain the purpose of hazardous area information; 3 Recognise unsuitable ignition sources and practices; 4 Prepare an operational prevention checklist; 5 Define specialist review and escalation requirements.

04

Target Audience

Safety Officers; Operations Supervisors; Maintenance Planners; Process Engineers; Facilities Technical Supervisors.

05

Target Industries

Chemical Manufacturing; Oil and Gas Processing; Bulk Fuel Storage; Grain and Flour Processing; Pharmaceutical Manufacturing; Paint and Coating Operations.

Course Contents

  • Module 1 Explosion Hazard Fundamentals: Gases vapours mists and combustible dusts; Fuel oxidant ignition and confinement effects; Fire versus explosion consequence pathways.
  • Module 2 Release and Atmosphere Formation: Normal abnormal and maintenance releases; Ventilation dispersion and accumulation influences; Material properties and uncertainty in information.
  • Module 3 Ignition Source Recognition: Electrical mechanical thermal and static sources; Hot work friction and portable equipment; Nonroutine activities and temporary installations.
  • Module 4 Hazardous Area Awareness: Purpose of zoning and classification documents; Equipment suitability and operating restrictions; Specialist competence and classification limitations.
  • Module 5 Prevention and Control: Reducing releases and hazardous inventories; Ventilation housekeeping and ignition control; Inerting and protection systems as specialist designs.
  • Module 6 Operational Work Controls: Permits maintenance and contractor communication; Inspection defects and change management interfaces; Loss of safeguards and escalation decisions.
  • Module 7 Emergency and Information Needs: Alarms exclusion and safe evacuation; Relevant material data and emergency communication; Limits of untrained intervention.
  • Module 8 Explosion Prevention Workshop: Reviewing a fictional process area; Identifying weak operational controls; Presenting prevention priorities and specialist referrals.
07

Assessment

  • 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
  • 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
  • Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
  • Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Review a fictional process area and prepare an explosion prevention checklist identifying release, ignition and work control gaps requiring action or specialist review.
  • Assessment criteria: Correct release and ignition hazard recognition; Practical prevention and operating controls; Clear specialist design and classification boundaries.
  • Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
  • All mandatory criteria must pass: Reject uncontrolled ignition sources in hazardous areas.
  • Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
08

Certification

  • Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
  • The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
  • Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
  • Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
  • Records explosion hazard and hazardous area awareness; it does not qualify area classifiers, explosion protection designers or specialist electrical inspectors.
  • Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
