Programme Summary

Assess hazardous substance risks by examining how people are actually exposed during work. Participants interpret safety information, identify process generated contaminants and select controls that address inhalation, skin contact and other relevant pathways. Task cases develop practical assessment records, monitoring questions and review actions, helping teams recognise when specialist occupational hygiene advice is necessary to establish adequate protection.

02

Training Objectives

1 Connect substance hazards with actual task exposure; 2 Interpret safety information without substituting for assessment; 3 Select controls using the prevention hierarchy; 4 Identify monitoring and specialist support needs; 5 Maintain practical assessment and review records.

03

Learning Outcomes

1 Prepare a task specific substance assessment; 2 Identify exposure routes and affected workers; 3 Select justified prevention and control measures; 4 Specify control checks and escalation needs; 5 Define review triggers after operational changes.

04

Target Audience

Safety Officers; HSE Coordinators; Operations Supervisors; Maintenance Supervisors; Facilities Supervisors.

05

Target Industries

Chemical Manufacturing; Construction; Metal Fabrication; Cleaning Services; Food Manufacturing; Laboratory Services.

Course Contents

  • Module 1 Hazardous Substance Scope: Purchased substances and process generated contaminants; Acute chronic and delayed health effects; Tasks mixtures and people exposed.
  • Module 2 Information Gathering: Safety data sheets labels and technical guidance; Use quantities temperature and release mechanisms; Missing information and competent advice.
  • Module 3 Exposure Pathways: Inhalation skin ingestion and other routes; Duration frequency and worker variability; Maintenance cleaning and nonroutine exposure.
  • Module 4 Risk Evaluation: Hazard severity and exposure potential; Applicable exposure limits and interpretation boundaries; Uncertainty and priority for specialist assessment.
  • Module 5 Control Selection: Elimination substitution enclosure and ventilation; Work methods hygiene and restricted access; Protective equipment as supplementary control.
  • Module 6 Checking Control Effectiveness: Inspection maintenance and operational indicators; Exposure monitoring and competent interpretation; Health surveillance decisions by qualified professionals.
  • Module 7 Records Training and Review: Clear task instructions and worker information; Spills changes and adverse health signals; Ownership review dates and action tracking.
  • Module 8 Substance Assessment Workshop: Assessing a fictional exposure scenario; Selecting and justifying control priorities; Defining evidence needed for adequate protection.
07

Assessment

  • 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
  • 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
  • Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
  • Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Complete a task based hazardous substance assessment, justify controls and identify the evidence or specialist assessment needed to confirm protection.
  • Assessment criteria: Accurate task and exposure analysis; Suitable control hierarchy application; Clear verification and escalation decisions.
  • Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
  • All mandatory criteria must pass: Do not treat a safety data sheet as a complete assessment.
  • Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
08

Certification

  • Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
  • The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
  • Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
  • Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
  • Records hazardous substance assessment learning; it does not establish specialist hygiene competence or authorise hazardous chemical operations.
  • Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
