Programme Summary
Assess machinery risks by examining the tasks people perform across operation, cleaning, adjustment and maintenance. Participants review access to danger zones, protective measures and foreseeable misuse using machine case studies. The programme develops practical risk reduction recommendations and verification questions, while distinguishing general assessment skills from detailed safety control design, conformity assessment and specialist functional safety validation.
Training Objectives
1 Identify machinery hazards across task lifecycles; 2 Assess access and foreseeable intervention needs; 3 Apply prevention and safeguarding principles; 4 Evaluate protective measure limitations and dependencies; 5 Define competent verification and change review needs.
Learning Outcomes
1 Prepare a task based machinery risk review; 2 Identify inadequate guarding and access controls; 3 Propose a justified risk reduction sequence; 4 Specify verification questions for protective measures; 5 Escalate safety control design and validation needs.
Target Audience
Machinery Safety Engineers; Maintenance Engineers; Manufacturing Engineers; Safety Officers; Production Technical Supervisors.
Target Industries
Manufacturing; Food Processing; Packaging Operations; Metalworking; Woodworking; Industrial Maintenance.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Machinery Risk Scope: Operation setup cleaning and maintenance tasks; Mechanical electrical and stored energy hazards; Foreseeable misuse and human interaction.
- Module 2 Task and Access Analysis: Danger zones and exposure opportunities; Reach movement and intervention frequency; Operator maintainer and contractor perspectives.
- Module 3 Risk Reduction Hierarchy: Inherently safer design opportunities; Safeguards and complementary protective measures; Information training and residual risk controls.
- Module 4 Guarding Principles: Fixed interlocked and adjustable guard purposes; Openings access distances and technical verification; Defeat incentives and practical usability.
- Module 5 Protective Devices and Controls: Presence sensing emergency stops and reset awareness; Control dependencies and safe failure considerations; Specialist functional safety design boundaries.
- Module 6 Isolation and Safe Intervention: Energy identification and verified isolation interfaces; Stored energy and unexpected startup hazards; Competent procedures and authorised maintenance.
- Module 7 Verification and Change: Checking protective functions and documentation; Modification impact and renewed risk assessment; Escalating inadequate or bypassed protection.
- Module 8 Machinery Risk Workshop: Reviewing a fictional machine task case; Selecting practical risk reduction priorities; Specifying competent verification and approval needs.
Assessment
- 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Review a machine task case, identify guarding and intervention risks and propose risk reduction priorities with specialist verification requirements.
- Assessment criteria: Complete task and access hazard analysis; Appropriate hierarchy and safeguarding logic; Clear verification and competence boundaries.
- Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- All mandatory criteria must pass: Do not accept bypassed critical guarding.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records machinery risk assessment learning; it does not authorise safety control design, conformity assessment or functional safety validation.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
