Programme Summary
Build practical awareness and basic equipment skills for planning work where a fall could cause injury. Participants apply the control hierarchy, compare access arrangements and examine the limits of personal fall protection. Ground-level exercises cover equipment checks, harness fitting and compatible connections, supported by scenarios addressing clearance, supervision, changing conditions and suitable emergency rescue arrangements.
Training Objectives
1 Strengthen application of height risk control hierarchy; 2 Improve selection of suitable access protection arrangements; 3 Develop accurate equipment checks and harness fitting; 4 Clarify fall clearance compatibility and rescue considerations; 5 Promote recognition of unsafe working conditions.
Learning Outcomes
1 Select suitable controls for a height-work scenario; 2 Identify defects requiring equipment removal from service; 3 Demonstrate correct harness fit and compatible connections; 4 Explain clearance limitations using supplied equipment instructions; 5 Identify conditions requiring work suspension and escalation.
Target Audience
Maintenance technicians; Construction supervisors; Facilities technicians; Installation operatives; HSE officers; Contractor supervisors.
Target Industries
Construction; Facilities maintenance; Telecommunications installation; Utilities; Manufacturing; Renewable energy maintenance.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Height Hazards and Control Hierarchy: Recognising fall and falling object hazards; Avoiding work at height where practicable; Collective prevention before personal protection.
- Module 2 Access Equipment and Work Planning: Selecting suitable platforms ladders and access; Fragile surfaces openings and edge protection; Inspection supervision weather and site conditions.
- Module 3 Personal Equipment Inspection and Fit: Harness lanyard and connector components; Preuse checks defects and quarantine; Correct harness adjustment and wearer checks.
- Module 4 Restraint Arrest and System Compatibility: Restraint versus fall arrest functions; Anchorage compatibility and manufacturer instructions; Clearance swing falls and system limitations.
- Module 5 Emergency Planning and Practical Application: Suitable rescue arrangements and timely response; Stop work triggers and emergency communication; Ground level fitting and scenario assessment.
Assessment
- 20 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 30 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied manufacturer instructions and diagrams allowed; internet, AI and personal notes prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (90 minutes): At individual ground-level stations, inspect equipment, reject defects, fit a harness and demonstrate compatible connections. Use a supplied scenario to justify controls, assess clearance limits and identify missing rescue arrangements.
- Assessment criteria: Appropriate control selection and scenario reasoning; Correct inspection fitting and compatible connection; Recognition of clearance rescue and stop-work limits.
- Pass each component separately: 15/20 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- All mandatory criteria must pass: Reject defective or incompatible equipment and demonstrate secure correct connections; Do not propose work with unverified fall clearance or unsuitable anchorage; Stop planned work when required rescue arrangements are unavailable.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records assessed foundational height-safety skills; it does not authorise work, qualify rescue technicians or replace equipment-specific, rope-access, scaffold or MEWP training.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
