Programme Summary
Control laboratory equipment through its full operating life so that measurement results remain dependable. Participants distinguish calibration, verification, maintenance and intermediate checks, review evidence of fitness for use and respond to equipment failures. Practical cases support risk based intervals, clear status identification and retrospective impact assessments when equipment performance no longer meets its intended requirements.
Training Objectives
1 Connect equipment controls with measurement requirements; 2 Distinguish calibration verification and maintenance activities; 3 Plan proportionate calibration and intermediate checks; 4 Evaluate equipment evidence before authorising use; 5 Manage equipment failures and result impacts.
Learning Outcomes
1 Define equipment acceptance and check criteria; 2 Review calibration evidence for intended use; 3 Prepare an equipment control schedule; 4 Assess an out of tolerance event; 5 Document return to service requirements.
Target Audience
Laboratory Supervisors; Calibration Coordinators; Laboratory Technicians; Equipment Custodians; Technical Managers.
Target Industries
Independent Testing Laboratories; Calibration Laboratories; Food Testing Laboratories; Environmental Testing Laboratories; Materials Testing Laboratories; Industrial Quality Laboratories.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Equipment Control Requirements: Intended measurements and performance needs; Calibration verification and maintenance distinctions; Responsibilities and equipment master records.
- Module 2 Selection and Acceptance: Specification suitability and operating range; Installation checks and environmental conditions; Acceptance evidence before routine use.
- Module 3 Calibration Planning: Traceability routes and service specifications; Calibration ranges points and uncertainties; Initial intervals and review criteria.
- Module 4 Calibration Certificate Review: Results corrections and stated uncertainty; Comparison with intended use tolerances; Limitations and acceptance decision records.
- Module 5 Intermediate Checks: Check standards and stable references; Check frequency and acceptance rules; Trends escalation and documented actions.
- Module 6 Use Maintenance and Status: Operating instructions and authorised users; Service records and configuration changes; Status labels transport and storage.
- Module 7 Failure and Impact Assessment: Quarantine and out of tolerance investigation; Reviewing potentially affected laboratory results; Recalibration and return to service evidence.
- Module 8 Equipment Management Workshop: Building a risk based control schedule; Reviewing a calibration and failure case; Defining corrective action and follow up.
Assessment
- 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Evaluate a calibration certificate and equipment history, then prepare an intermediate check plan and a justified out of tolerance impact assessment.
- Assessment criteria: Fitness for use interpretation; Practical control and interval logic; Complete failure impact assessment.
- Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records equipment control and calibration review skills; it does not authorise calibration work beyond demonstrated technical competence.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
