Programme Summary
Create laboratory methods and technical records that make work reproducible and results traceable. Participants translate technical requirements into usable instructions, define essential observations and control document changes. Practical editing exercises address ambiguous steps, missing calculations and incomplete records, producing concise documentation that supports competent execution, review and investigation without adding unnecessary administrative burden to routine laboratory work.
Training Objectives
1 Translate laboratory activities into usable instructions; 2 Define records needed for technical reconstruction; 3 Strengthen method version and change control; 4 Improve clarity of calculations and acceptance criteria; 5 Support efficient technical review and retention.
Learning Outcomes
1 Draft a clear laboratory method section; 2 Design a complete technical worksheet; 3 Identify missing technical evidence in records; 4 Prepare a controlled method change record; 5 Evaluate documentation against practical user needs.
Target Audience
Laboratory Method Owners; Laboratory Supervisors; Technical Writers; Laboratory Analysts; Quality Documentation Coordinators.
Target Industries
Independent Testing Laboratories; Calibration Laboratories; Food Testing Laboratories; Environmental Testing Laboratories; Materials Testing Laboratories; Industrial Quality Laboratories.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Documentation Purpose and Scope: Method instructions versus technical records; Evidence needed to reconstruct laboratory work; Users responsibilities and document hierarchy.
- Module 2 Writing Usable Methods: Purpose scope and method limitations; Resources conditions and sequential instructions; Clear acceptance criteria and decision points.
- Module 3 Technical Worksheet Design: Sample equipment and operator identification; Observations raw data and environmental conditions; Traceable calculations and review fields.
- Module 4 Calculations and Data Presentation: Units equations and rounding conventions; Example calculations and template verification; Recording deviations and exceptional results.
- Module 5 Document Approval and Distribution: Technical review and authorised approval; Version identification and controlled access; Managing external methods and obsolete copies.
- Module 6 Method Change Control: Change rationale and impact assessment; Verification validation and training implications; Effective dates and transition evidence.
- Module 7 Records Review and Retention: Completeness traceability and authorised correction; Retention retrieval and confidentiality controls; Evidence for investigations and repeatability.
- Module 8 Documentation Improvement Workshop: Rewriting an ambiguous laboratory instruction; Building a technically complete worksheet; Presenting a justified controlled change.
Assessment
- 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Rewrite an unclear method section, design a technical worksheet and document the review, training and verification needs for the proposed change.
- Assessment criteria: Clarity and technical completeness; Traceable records and calculations; Proportionate document change controls.
- Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records laboratory documentation design skills; technical method approval and personnel authorisation remain laboratory responsibilities.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
