Programme Summary

Establish clear links between laboratory results and suitable measurement references. Participants evaluate calibration evidence, reference material certificates and the suitability of traceability routes for different measurement tasks. Practical cases address uncertainty, matrix match, stability and handling, enabling laboratories to specify appropriate purchases and identify breaks in evidence before results are released to customers.

02

Training Objectives

1 Explain practical metrological traceability requirements; 2 Assess reference suitability for intended measurements; 3 Strengthen calibration and material certificate reviews; 4 Control reference storage use and expiry; 5 Resolve gaps in measurement traceability evidence.

03

Learning Outcomes

1 Draw a measurement traceability chain; 2 Review calibration evidence against task needs; 3 Select suitable reference materials for use; 4 Identify missing uncertainty or reference information; 5 Prepare a traceability improvement action record.

04

Target Audience

Laboratory Analysts; Calibration Technicians; Technical Managers; Laboratory Buyers; Quality Coordinators.

05

Target Industries

Independent Testing Laboratories; Calibration Laboratories; Food Testing Laboratories; Environmental Testing Laboratories; Materials Testing Laboratories; Industrial Quality Laboratories.

Course Contents

  • Module 1 Traceability Fundamentals: Measurands units and measurement references; Documented chains and associated uncertainties; Traceability of results versus equipment.
  • Module 2 Selecting Traceability Routes: Calibration and reference material options; International references and recognised procedures; Justifying alternative routes where necessary.
  • Module 3 Calibration Certificate Review: Scope ranges and reported uncertainty; Measurement conditions and correction values; Fitness against laboratory measurement requirements.
  • Module 4 Reference Material Selection: Certified and noncertified material purposes; Matrix property and concentration suitability; Homogeneity stability and assigned value evidence.
  • Module 5 Material Handling and Control: Receipt identity and certificate retention; Storage preparation and expiry controls; Working standards and dilution traceability.
  • Module 6 Uncertainty in the Traceability Chain: Propagation of reference value uncertainty; Calibration contributions and acceptable capability; Avoiding unsupported traceability statements.
  • Module 7 Managing Traceability Gaps: Missing evidence and supplier clarification; Impact on past and current results; Corrective actions and documented justification.
  • Module 8 Traceability Review Workshop: Mapping a complete measurement chain; Comparing suitable reference purchasing options; Recording a defensible acceptance decision.
07

Assessment

  • 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
  • 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
  • Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
  • Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Map a measurement traceability chain, evaluate two supplied certificates and justify the selection of a reference material for a stated analytical use.
  • Assessment criteria: Complete traceability chain logic; Reference fitness and uncertainty interpretation; Evidence based acceptance decisions.
  • Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
  • Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
08

Certification

  • Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
  • The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
  • Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
  • Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
  • Records practical traceability and reference selection skills; it does not confer calibration authority or certify reference materials.
  • Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
