Programme Summary
Investigate unexpected laboratory results without losing scientific discipline or original evidence. Participants distinguish an analytical error from a potential product or process problem, plan justified follow up and evaluate hypotheses using records and data. Cases address retesting, resampling, invalidation and escalation, producing a clear investigation trail that supports reliable quality decisions and effective prevention of recurrence.
Training Objectives
1 Structure timely evidence based laboratory investigations; 2 Distinguish analytical hypotheses from confirmed causes; 3 Control retesting resampling and result invalidation; 4 Protect original data throughout investigation activities; 5 Connect investigation findings with effective corrective action.
Learning Outcomes
1 Prepare an initial laboratory investigation plan; 2 Evaluate a proposed cause against evidence; 3 Justify or reject a retesting proposal; 4 Document result impact and escalation decisions; 5 Write a defensible investigation conclusion.
Target Audience
Laboratory Investigators; Quality Control Supervisors; Quality Assurance Officers; Technical Managers; Analytical Laboratory Managers.
Target Industries
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing; Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing; Chemical Manufacturing; Contract Pharmaceutical Laboratories; Medical Product Laboratories.
Course Contents
- Module 1 Unexpected Result Classification: Out of specification and atypical results; Laboratory and manufacturing investigation interfaces; Immediate notification and evidence preservation.
- Module 2 Initial Laboratory Review: Methods calculations and original observations; Equipment standards reagents and system suitability; Analyst discussion and contemporaneous documentation.
- Module 3 Hypothesis Development: Plausible causes linked to factual evidence; Distinguishing assumptions from confirmed laboratory errors; Designing controlled investigative checks.
- Module 4 Retesting and Resampling: Scientific rationale and predefined plans; Sample representativeness and authorised decisions; Preventing repeated testing to achieve compliance.
- Module 5 Result Invalidation Decisions: Evidence needed to demonstrate assignable cause; Retaining original results and investigation history; Limits of averages and passing repeats.
- Module 6 Broader Impact Investigation: Related batches methods and previous results; Manufacturing sampling and material factors; Risk based scope and escalation.
- Module 7 Corrective Action and Closure: Cause specific actions and accountable owners; Effectiveness evidence and recurrence monitoring; Quality review and justified conclusions.
- Module 8 Investigation Case Workshop: Evaluating competing analytical explanations; Reviewing a proposed retesting plan; Drafting an evidence based investigation report.
Assessment
- 40 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
- 60 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
- Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
- Individual applied assessment (30 minutes): Evaluate an unexpected laboratory result case, decide whether retesting is justified and write an investigation conclusion with impact and corrective action requirements.
- Assessment criteria: Scientific reasoning and evidence use; Justified retesting and invalidation decisions; Complete impact and corrective action logic.
- Pass each component separately: 30/40 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
- All mandatory criteria must pass: Preserve all original results; Reject testing into compliance.
- Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
Certification
- Successful learners receive a TQCSI Arabia digital Certificate of Successful Completion.
- The certificate records the learner name, exact programme title, teaching hours, completion date and unique verification reference.
- Verified identity, full attendance and separate written and applied passes are required; all mandatory critical criteria must be met.
- Proposed issue target: within 30 calendar days of approved results and settlement of applicable fees.
- Records laboratory investigation skills; it does not authorise batch release or replace product specific regulatory and quality responsibilities.
- Attendance confirmation may record completed hours for unsuccessful learners; it does not certify successful completion.
