Programme Summary

Build a practical foundation for contributing to Lean Six Sigma improvement projects. Participants use a simple business case to define customer needs, map work, collect useful data and investigate potential causes of poor performance. The programme develops disciplined team participation and basic improvement tools, with clear handover of findings to project leaders and process owners.

02

Training Objectives

1 Explain structured improvement and team responsibilities; 2 Connect customer needs with measurable problems; 3 Apply basic process and quality tools; 4 Support evidence based cause investigation; 5 Contribute practical ideas and control actions.

03

Learning Outcomes

1 Draft a clear improvement problem statement; 2 Map a process and identify waste; 3 Prepare a basic data collection plan; 4 Use quality tools to explore causes; 5 Present a small improvement and control proposal.

04

Target Audience

Team Leaders; Quality Coordinators; Operations Supervisors; Process Team Members; Improvement Project Assistants.

05

Target Industries

Manufacturing; Logistics and Warehousing; Shared Services; Healthcare Administration; Financial Operations; Hospitality Operations.

  • Module 3 Customer Needs and Process Boundaries: Internal and external customer requirements; Critical quality characteristics and measures; Suppliers inputs outputs and customers.
  • Module 4 Process Mapping: Activity sequences decisions and handoffs; Queues rework and information delays; Validating maps with process participants.
  • Module 5 Recognising Operational Waste: Nonvalue activities and necessary controls; Flow interruptions and excess work; Safe prioritisation of improvement opportunities.
  • Module 6 Data Collection Basics: Operational definitions and sampling plans; Counts times and classification consistency; Checking data completeness and reliability.
  • Module 7 Basic Data Presentation: Check sheets histograms and Pareto charts; Run charts and simple stratification; Selecting displays for the improvement question.
  • Module 8 Exploring Causes: Cause and effect diagrams; Five why questioning and evidence checks; Separating symptoms from plausible causes.
  • Module 9 Testing Improvement Ideas: Idea generation and practical selection; Small pilots and success measures; Risk checks before changing work.
  • Module 10 Standardising and Controlling Changes: Updated work instructions and ownership; Visual checks and simple control plans; Escalation when performance deteriorates.
  • Module 11 Team Communication: Short evidence based project updates; Constructive challenge and stakeholder feedback; Documenting decisions and agreed actions.

Assessment

  • 60 single best answer questions, including applied scenarios; one mark per question.
  • 90 minute invigilated digital examination with identity verification. Approved accessibility adjustments preserve the assessed competence.
  • Supplied reference pack and calculator permitted; external internet and AI prohibited.
  • Individual applied assessment (45 minutes): Complete an individual improvement case covering problem definition, process mapping, basic data analysis and a practical control recommendation.
  • Assessment criteria: Clear problem and customer connection; Appropriate basic improvement tool use; Feasible proposal and control ownership.
  • Pass each component separately: 45/60 written marks (75%) and at least 70% on the applied task.
  • Individual results and feedback are provided. One reassessment may follow coaching under the published enrolment terms.
